And the winner is… BMW

Last year the order of the top three teams in Formula 1 were McLaren with the most points, followed by Ferrari, then BMW.  When the whole “spy-gate” thing went down, McLaren was stripped of its points, giving the team championship to Ferrari.  It wasn’t until the very last race that McLaren’s drivers lost the driver’s championship by one point to Ferrari.

It was a tough year for McLaren.  They were so close!  But this ongoing feud between McLaren and Ferrari is getting old.  Although the FIA has closed the books on the investigation of McLaren, they still have to inspect their cars to make sure they aren’t using Ferrari information again.  I know they’re not stupid enough to do that.  But they continue.  Ferrari long promised to seek legal justice through the Italian government, of which they’ve kept their word.

McLaren employee’s houses are being searched, the media coverage is biased, and it generally feels like McLaren is still being crucified.  And mocked.  And poked.  And heckled.  It’s not easy for anyone to know really how malicious McLaren was.  But I think enough is enough.  Let’s race.  I like Ferrari.  But this latest mess gives me a foul opinion of Ferrari, or at least key people within.

You know who I want to win?  BMW.  They were strong, consistent, and quietly confident last year.  They didn’t ruffle any feathers and they were third in points.  They deserve to win as much as any other team.  I like McLaren and Ferrari.  I like Lewis Hamilton.  But I like BMW, too.  I believe I feel stronger about BMW winning than I do about McLaren and Ferrari battling it out, again.  It pains me to say it, too, because I want Hamilton to acheive even more greatness.  

Either way, I’ll still be watching every race weekend.  And I’m sure my opinion will change as the season unfolds.  But for now, go BMW!
